Chronic stress negatively effects the human body resulting in weight gain, damage to the immune system, increased headaches, muscle tension, and exacerbation of medical problems. Effective management of stress takes skill acquisition and practice. Aromatherapy is a highly effective ways to successfully manage daily stress.
Aromatherapy is the practice of using natural, or essential, oils extracted from flowers, bark, leaves, or other plant parts to enhance psychological and physical well-being. Essential oils are a great tool to use while learning and developing these skills. Essential oils and other aromatherapy tools are useful because they use one of the body’s strongest senses, the sense of smell, to help you readjust quickly. Different essential oils and aromatherapy tools can affect different emotions, such as anger, fear, grief, anxiety, memory, and concentration in minutes. Essential oils have also been shown to stimulate brain functioning, manage pain, and enhance mood and cognitive performance.

When used as a supplement, essential oils can do wonders for your health. Of course, the way in which they are applied impacts said healing properties. Due to the fact that oils are usually highly concentrated, we do not often recommend applying them in their pure form directly to the skin.
Use small amounts diluted in water or with a carrier oil or massage lotion.
Blend drops of essential oil with carrier lotions (almond, cocoa butter, shea butter). This has been shown to affect the body both psychologically and physiologically. Remember that each oil has different effects. For example, peppermint energizes the senses, but lavender relaxes them. The olfactory sense is triggered using essential oils during massage, and some oils are absorbed into the skin and ultimately the blood stream.
Simply add a few drops to the bathwater and blend before submerging yourself. Aromas will trigger the olfactory senses and enhance blood circulation.
Vapor inhalation is by far the most well-known and popular method of applying essential oils. Since there are many essential oils that are believed to alleviate sinus and respiratory issues, steam inhalation is a very popular application method. A general rule of thumb for most essential oils is to add about five drops to steaming water and inhale the aroma using a towel tent (place the towel around your head so the aroma does not escape while you inhale it).
Add a few drops of essential oil to your lotion, massage oil, or cream of choice. This can include ones such as cocoa butter, shea butter, or any unscented lotion base to create your own fragrant blend.
Add a few drops of your desired essential oil to a bowl of warm water. Dampen a washcloth with the essential oil blend. Using said washcloth as a compress, apply it to the areas of your body that need pain relief.
