Frequently Asked Questions
Getting Started
1. How do I schedule an appointment or free consultation?
You can schedule a free 15-minute telephone consultation, or appointment, by contacting us through our website or emailing us directly at contact@theraedagroup.com. We’ll help match you with the provider who best fits your needs.
2. What can I expect during the first session?
In advance of your first session, your therapist will ask you to complete all first session forms via the Client Portal. That way, all the paperwork is out of the way and the scheduled time can be spent in office talking. Your first session focuses on understanding your concerns, goals, and background. Your therapist will ask questions, explain their approach, and collaborate with you to create a plan for moving forward.
3. Do you offer in-person, virtual, or hybrid sessions?
Yes. We offer in-person therapy at our Austin office as well as secure telehealth and telephone sessions for our clients.
4. How soon can I get an appointment?
Availability varies by provider, but we strive to offer new clients an appointment within 1–2 weeks. Sometimes sooner.
5. How do I know if I need therapy?
Consider therapy if you're experiencing persistent sadness, anxiety, relationship difficulties, major life transitions, or feeling stuck. Therapy isn't just for crisis situations, it's also valuable for personal growth and maintaining mental wellness.
6. How often will I need to attend therapy?
This varies based on client need and preference, but most clients begin with biweekly sessions. As you progress, frequency may decrease to monthly maintenance sessions or PRN.
Psychological and Coaching Services
1. What is the difference between therapy and coaching?
Therapy focuses on emotional healing, mental health concerns, and behavioral patterns. Coaching focuses on performance, motivation, accountability, and skill building. Both use structured, evidence-based approaches.
2. Do you offer executive or performance coaching?
Yes. We provide coaching for professionals, executives, and high performers looking to optimize focus, leadership, and success.
3. Do you work with athletes or high performers?
Absolutely. We offer sports psychology and performance coaching for athletes of all levels.
4. How many sessions will I need?
The number of sessions varies based on your goals, concerns, and how quickly you’d like to work. Some clients come for short-term support over a few months, while others prefer ongoing therapy for deeper, long-term growth. Your therapist will discuss a recommended plan with you and adjust it over time based on your needs, preference, and progress.
5. Do you work with teens, children, couples, or families?
We work with children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families. Contact us for specifics.
6. Will I have homework or skills to practice between sessions?
Often, yes. Practicing skills outside of sessions helps to accelerate and reinforce progress.
Psychological Testing
1. How does psychological testing work, and who is it for?
Psychological testing involves structured assessments to evaluate cognitive, emotional, academic, or personality functioning. It can help clarify diagnoses, support school accommodations, guide treatment, or inform personal/occupational decisions.
2. How long does psychological testing take?
Testing typically takes 4-7 hours, which may occur over 1–2 sessions.
3. What should I expect during a testing appointment?
A clinical interview will be conducted and then clients will be asked to complete specific tasks guided by a trained psychologist and/or respond independently to standardized questionnaires. Breaks are provided.
4. Will I receive a written report and feedback session?
Yes. Every evaluation includes a detailed written report and a feedback session to discuss results and recommendations. Once scoring and interpretation are complete, a report is rendered and an in person, or virtual, feedback session will be scheduled within 1-2 weeks of the original appointment.
5. Do you offer ADHD, diagnostic, or educational testing?
Yes. These are among our most commonly requested assessments.
